Sumatra’s coffee-growing regions are situated in an environmentally sensitive buffer zone, nestled between the lush rainforests of Gunung Leuser National Park. This area is home to endangered species such as the Sumatran Tiger, making it a critical conservation zone. By growing coffee in this environmentally protected area, farmers help maintain the delicate balance of the ecosystem while providing you with a cup of coffee that is as sustainable as it is flavorful.

Our Sumatra coffee hails from Gayo Land, located in the heart of the Batak Region of West-Central Sumatra.  This area is known for its volcanic soils, which are rich in nutrients and give the coffee its distinctive flavor. The beans you’re drinking are a carefully selected blend of two exceptional Arabica varieties – Catimor and Typica – which are known for their ability to thrive in the challenging, high-altitude conditions of this region.

It's a perfect example of how sustainability can align with superior quality, allowing you to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while knowing you're supporting an environmentally conscious product.

Harvesting our Sumatra Beans

The harvest period spans from June to December, during which farmers carefully handpick the ripe coffee cherries. The beans are then processed through the wet-hulling method, which is a hallmark of Sumatran coffee. This process involves removing the outer husk of the coffee cherry while the beans are still wet, which contributes to the unique earthy flavors found in Sumatra coffee. After milling, the beans are left to dry under the sun, ensuring that each one is perfectly dried to create a clean, consistent cup of coffee.
